The doctrine of the axes is a physiological, energetical and a mental doctrine of harmony and naturalness. We can discuss in great detail all the rules and methods, express our thoughts and opinions, yet if our consciousness lacks basis, persistence and strength, all these discussions will not be our truth and will remain feeble.
Until we balance out all our internal processes and help our minds reach a harmonious state, we will not be able to take responsibility of our thoughts and actions. What is more, in all these cases we will not belong to ourselves and will not be able to comprehend the essential qualities of our mind because it will lack a basis. At a time when our lives are full of dynamics and motion, living in an unregulated state is equivalent to avoiding the problem of life itself. We cannot find satisfaction if we have not solved the problem of personal identification.
The axis is a physical, not an imaginary concept. When our axis is well-built, our energies are regulated, they are in a state of mutual control, and we can lean on our abilities and understand them. Once we understand them, we can start cultivating them. Development depends on one’s ability to build up one’s strength but this cannot be achieved without the axes. Most importantly, without the axes we have no true reference point, and we end up inventing intermediary models and schemes, which would inevitably remain temporary.
Even if we are born with a more stable energy model, we must learn to develop and improve it, and not simply exploit it.
